Meet Deborah: A Trailblazer in Innovation
She is especially adept in assisting buyers who are relocating from outside the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area and has earned a Relocation Specialist designation. With a passion for historic properties and architecture, Deborah has also briefly studied with, and has become a member of National Trust for Historic Preservation. Enjoying architectural tours during domestic and international travels is one of Debbie’s favorite things to do!
Recently, Deborah has obtained National Association of Realtors Resort and Second Home Specialist (RSS), Certified International Property Specialist (CIPS), and Senior Real Estate Specialist (SRES) Designations in order to assist her clientele who may wish to ease into retirement or just have a second residence away from the hustle and bustle of every day life. Conducting downsizing seminars for clients has been an additional area of concentration.
Dedicated to her profession, Debbie has taught real estate classes to new, mostly second career agents and has coordinated information seminars and sales meetings in her branch office of Long and Foster Realtors in McLean, Virginia.Debbie balances her life by playing violin, cello and piano. As an avid music lover, she plays cello and violin with the McLean (Virginia) Symphony and in the summers has played in “pops” concerts with the Annandale (Virginia) Symphony. One of her latest music learning experiences was a summer workshop to learn to play the Canadian Fiddle in Ottawa, Canada. To stay in shape, Debbie enjoys walking, jogging or biking through the pretty Northern Virginia towns and countryside. Deborah lives in McLean, Virginia with her husband, William.
Debbie loves to “think outside the box” ! Some surprisingly uplifting solutions have involved finding workable solutions to life transitions. An older couple with a large piece of land in McLean, VA on which they resided in an older home in need of repair were concerned about rising real estate taxes. They wanted to remain in the location to be close to family and church and other community support. Debbie organized a land exchange transaction so that a developer could buy the property and subdivide into four lots. The couple retained one of the lots on which the builder built a small efficient home (free and clear with no. mortgage) and gave them some additional cash. Another gratifying and melodious marketing effort involved a builder’s large home in Northern Virginia that needed more marketing exposure. Debbie combined her love of music as a board member of a local symphony and “orchestrated” a chamber music concert in the beautifully hardscaped area around the swimming pool. Cocktails and beautiful hors d’oeuvres were enjoyed by guests. This event simultaneously showcased the expertly crafted home and also served as a fundraiser for the local symphony. One more example of collaboration was the pairing of a cooking demonstration by the new gourmet store in town in a builder’s state of the art kitchen and inviting local real estate agents to tour the home and experience tastes from a gourmet chef! There are opportunities to bring people together around every corner!!
